September Writing Challenge #8 – A Current Book That I Love
Much like my music tastes, my book tastes can also be a little embarrassing with my favourite genre being biographies (not the intellectual type ones, more like the tell-all “here’s what really happens on The Bachelor” type ones) and chick-lit. I want to be the kind of person who can sit down and read an impressive 1000+ page novel, but let’s be real, I would never do that. I want to read about celebrities and fashion and glamorous lifestyles. I love reading about the dark side to some of these seemingly perfect lives and Cat Marnell’s memoir gives all the juicy details and so, so much more! There was absolutely no hesitation required for me to share my favourite book with you in this post. In fact, I finished it over a month ago and I’m *still* thinking about it!
How to Murder Your Life by Cat Marnell really had me hooked this year. I couldn’t put it down and finished it way too quickly. I was so sad when it ended that I immediately followed Cat Marnell on IG so that I could find out more about her.
Her book tells the story of her life growing up with her doctor parents, then moving to NYC to become a beauty editor (helps the obsession with this book that her job is my dream job and my dream city) all while battling a secret life of drug addiction. This book gives you an inside look at the life of a beauty editor, a drug addict, and a party girl. It’s also hilarious on top of that.
I won’t give too much away because it’s all SO GOOD and you HAVE to read it. If there’s one book that you read all year, make it this one! Please share with me if you do, I would love to hear your thoughts!
